Congratulations, Summations, and Plans - 60 Years of the Moderna galerija

The theme of the documentary exhibition on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Moderna galerija / Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana is its anniversaries. Moderna galerija often celebrated them with extensive study exhibitions and publications: the 10th anniversary with the exhibition Self-portrait in Slovenia (1958), the 30th with the Slovene Fine Art 1945-78 (1979), and the 50th with the exhibition TANK! Slovene Historical Avant-garde (1989/99). Also three documentary exhibitions were staged, for the 25th, the 30th and the 50th anniversaries.

Displayed at the exhibition there are approximately eighty reprints from the museum photo archive, original archival and documentary materials, excerpts of television programs from the archives of the TV Slovenia network, and copies of about sixty newspaper articles kept by the Moderna galerija Documentation-Archives Department.

The exhibition catalogue includes a text by the Director of the Moderna galerija, Zdenka Badovinac, reprints of the (preserved) opening speeches delivered at the anniversary celebrations by the then directors and political functionaries, some selected media responses, and a chronological overview of the Museum's work, compiled by Jana Intihar Ferjan and Bojana Rogina.

The exhibition was staged by Bojana Rogina in cooperation with Alenka Pirman, and designed by Tanja Radež.

Alenka Pirman (1964, Ljubljana) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana in 1989. In recent years she has done research into the role of documents in contemporary art, in the framework of imaginary institutions: the SK8 Museum (1991-93), the RIGUSRS - Research Institute for Geo-artistic Statistics of the Republic of Slovenia (1997, with Vuk Ćosić and Irena Woelle), and the Domestic Research Institute (1994-98). Then she took part in artistic collective platforms Luther Blissett/01.org (1998) and Bughouse (2002-03). She is a founding member of the Domestic Research Society (2004).

Tanja Radež (1968, Jesenice) graduated from the Visual Communications Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana in 1996. Between 1989 and 2002 she worked with Darko Miladinović as Studio TANDAR; now she specializes in graphic and industrial design, interior decoration, and set design in her own studio. She often works together with the painter Zora Stančić, exploring the visual possibilities between printing techniques and design. She lives and works in Ljubljana.
