You and the City. Diaries of a Future Avant-garde is the Dutch artist Jeanne van Heeswijk?s three-part project in Slovenia, started in September 2008 (Ljubljana, Tobačna tovarna, September 2008; Novo mesto, Simulaker Gallery, November 2008; Ljubljana, Center and Gallery P74 and RTV Slovenija, January 2009). It consists of a series of workshops in which teenagers discuss such issues as social change and revolutionary visions of adolescents, and learn to formulate and exchange views and opinions.

In the first two parts of the project, girls of different backgrounds wrote blogs about crucial social issues, including the status of women in society and the need to focus on feminist topics. In Ljubljana they wrote about their experiences of living in a city (this was part of the Museum in the Streets project), while in Novo mesto they continue to post their opinions on the Magazine Park website http://www.park.si/kategorija/ti-v-mestu/.

This final part of the project will be a debate on the issues discussed so far, which will take place in the program "Jasno in glasno" broadcast on RTV Slovenia channel 2 on Thursday, 29 January, at 8:00 p.m. In addition to the girls already involved, high-school students from Gimnazija Šentvid will take part in the debate, under the mentorship of Tatjana Brank Pečko. The show is moderated by Anžej Dežan and Maša Kljun; the script was written by Nataša Gaši in collaboration with Jeanne van Heeswijk.

Jeanne Van Heeswijk (Rotterdam) has initiated several "community art" projects and projects in urban contexts (De Strip, 2002-04; Blue House, 2005-09); she has had solo shows in important exhibition venues (P.S.1, New York, 1999; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, 2005); and participated in prominent group exhibitions such as Manifesta (1996), Venice Biennale (2003 and 2005), and Architectural Biennale in Rotterdam (2007). She first presented her work in Ljubljana in 2000, at the Worthless/Invaluable exhibition, and last year in the Museum in the Streets; both were organized by Moderna galerija.

The project is part of the action "Hosting Moderna galerija!" and of the discursive program Art in Public Space, headed by Urška Jurman in the Center and Gallery P74.

The project curator is Adela Železnik, Moderna galerija, in collaboration with Iztok Hotko, Simulaker Gallery, Novo mesto, and Urška Jurman, Gallery P74, Ljubljana- Šentvid.

Other associates: Nina Berkopec, Tina Cigler, Dejan Habicht, Tina Košir, Andreja Miketič, Borut Peterlin, Damir Skenderović

The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, the Mondriaan Foundation, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ljubljana.
