You are kindly invited to the opening ceremony of the retrospective exhibition NSK from Kapital to Capital. Neue Slowenische Kunst - an Event of the Final Decade of Yugoslavia on Monday, 11 May 2015 at 8 p.m. at the Moderna galerija, Cankarjeva 15. The inaugural speech will be given by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, Julijana Bizjak Mlakar, MA.

In 1984, three groups - the multimedia group Laibach (established 1980), the visual arts group IRWIN (1983), and the theatre group Scipion Nasice Sisters Theatre (SNST) (1983-1987) - founded the Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) art collective. That same day, the three groups founded a fourth group, the design department New Collectivism. Later NSK established other subdivisions: the Department of Pure and Applied Philosophy, Retrovision, Film, and Builders.

Our new series of small-scale exhibitions entitled From the Studio of ... presents cross-section views of recent production by artists whose works are included in the Moderna galerija permanent exhibition 20th Century / Continuities and Ruptures. The first exhibition in the series features Zdenko Huzjan, whose painting Settling (1986, oil on canvas) hangs in Room 5 of the permanent exhibition. The first edition of From the Studio of ... includes paintings, drawings, prints and other works selected together by the artist and the exhibition curator. The exhibition opens on Sunday, 8 February 2015 at 6 p.m. as part of the Moderna galerija program celebrating the national cultural holiday.

NSK from Kapital to Capital is the first retrospective exhibition of the NSK art collective, with a special focus on the transformational decade of the 1980s. In the final decade of the slowly unravelling Yugoslavia, when only lip service was still being paid to its system of socialist self-management, NSK loudly and clearly proclaimed the emperor naked - from Laibach's first poster action in Trbovlje in 1980 to the collective's last coordinated series of projects in the early 1990s, entitled Kapital.

The exhibition presents the educational tool with completely new methodology in interpreting art for the blind, which was conceived by the art historian Nataša Jovičić. This forms part of the gallery where next to the original picture of Edo Murtić (Highway, 1952) is placed a specially designed stand with five tactile diagrams printed in glass and accompanied by an audio system.

The exhibition presents a comprehensive survey of Tadej Pogačar's creative output over the past few decades and his P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Museum of Contemporary Art, with special emphasis on selected projects that have left a lasting mark on contemporary art production in Slovenia.
